What are we making?
At our company, we manufacture our main products, base-plates and electrode terminal-pins, by bending and punching metal sheets, including copper, using a press machine.
A base-plate (top right in the figure on the left) is a plate-shaped product with a thickness of 2.5 to 5 mm, and is mainly used as a heat sink for components. In the metal processing industry, processing soft and thick copper often results in unintentional deformation, making it a highly difficult process.
Electrode terminal-pins (bottom right in the left image) are products with complex shapes and a thickness of 2 mm or less, and are mainly used in circuits that require large amounts of power. Since distortion and dimensional deviation are not permitted, complex and highly precise processing is required.
Depending on the product, plating, resist resin printing, and resin molding may be performed after processing with a press.

Where in power semiconductors are base-plates and electrode terminal-pins used?

There are also base-plates made of iron or aluminum, but copper has a better ability to dissipate heat, so copper base-plates are preferred in fields that require large amounts of power.

In order for this wire to bond strongly to the electrode terminal-pin, the surface of the electrode terminal-pin must be of high quality, free of dirt, scratches, and other abnormalities. In addition, because the electrode terminal-pins are used to connect with other components, precision is also required in terms of their dimensions, angles, and other shapes.
